TimelineHero: become the music champion!

What you'll need:

  • Cards and tokens (for tokens you can use coins, poker chips, rocks, grains, candies, just about anything!)
  • Smartphone/Tablet with a QR reader app installed
  • Spotify app and a Spotify account (free or premium works)

Number of players:

2-5 (individual or teams)

Goal:

Be the first player (or team) to correctly place 10 songs in chronological order on your personal timeline.

Gameplay:

Note: Be sure to flip your phone right after you scan the QR code, this way you will not see the artist or song name on your spotify app

  1. Shuffle the cards and deal one to each player/team. Flip the card so the year is visible
  2. Each player gets 2 tokens. These are used to challenge other players' guesses (explained later).
  3. Take turns drawing a card, scanning the QR code, and listening to the song. Don't fip the card yet!
  4. Based on your current timeline, place your card where you think it belongs, guessing the song's release year.
  5. Flip the card to reveal the song's release year. If you are correct, keep the card and place it in your timeline. If your guess is incorrect, discard the card.
  6. The next player draws a card and repeats the process.

Adding difficulty with Tokens

  • If you think another player placed a card incorrectly, you can use a token to challenge their guess before they flip it:
    • Place the token where you think the card should go
    • If the challenger is right, they take the song card for their timeline. Discard the token
    • If the challenger is wrong, they lose their token and discard the song card.
  • Before flipping the song card on your turn, guess the song name and artist name to earn 1 token
  • On your turn, discard one token to skip the current song and get a new card

Winning:

The first player/team to correctly place 10 songs in chronological order wins the game

Tips:

  • Pay attention to musical styles and lyrical references that might give clues about the song's era.
  • Use your tokens strategically - don't be afraid to challenge!

Have fun and get ready to test your musical knowledge!
